From Sunshine to Sweater Weather
Embracing Cozy Fall Living
Summer is over! I repeat – summer is over! This is not a drill!
As much as I love this season, by the time we get to the end, I'm so ready to move on! In fact, having danced this dance for a few years now, I decided this year that Fall is my favorite season. Yes Yes I know I daydream, about summer and keep talking about it during the cold dark winter days. But walk with me….
I love a good schedule. I love plans. I love predictability. But you see, during the summer school breaks, bedtime is a mere suggestion, activities pop up randomly, and requests to be driven places are just thrown at me as if my day job is something I do when I have free time.
I love a nice warm day. I grew up on the Equator so the sun and I? We're good friends. But you see the weather we've had these last few months? It had me calling up my friends asking for swimming dates and destroying my utilities budget with the amount of showers I took.
I love making my home look and feel nice. But somehow this year, the laundry seemed to be cloning itself at lightning speed.
So while I'm grateful for all the family time, great food, beautiful sunny weather and fun travel, your girl is ready to proceed!
I'm talking warm spices, pumpkin everything, apples in every dessert, picturesque walks admiring the changing fall colours. Hell, even leaf blowing and raking (okay maybe I'll outsource that one to the boys).
But Fall is coming and ready I am! And with the boys back in school and the weather changing, here's how I plan to make the most of it:
Here's How I'm Planning to Lean Into Fall This Year
Cooking cozy meals at home – Soups, stews, and hearty one-pot dinners are coming back into rotation. My Hearty Pumpkin Cashew Soup is definitely on repeat (check out the recipe on Good Living with Mae).
Baking with apples and pumpkins – Apple crisps, pumpkin loaves, cinnamon rolls – all the things that make my kitchen smell like a hug.
Long walks with a view – Fall foliage walks are basically therapy. A thermos of chai or spiced tea in hand makes them even better. Doing this while chatting with a friend? Priceless!
Bringing fall indoors – I'm refreshing my home with seasonal décor, candles, and maybe even trying out a DIY fall centerpiece. Okay I'm buying that one!
Intentional slow evenings – Early sunsets mean cozy evenings. I'm looking forward to journaling, reading, and finally working through my fall watchlist without guilt.
Hosting simple gatherings – A casual brunch with spiced pancakes or an evening with mulled cider – low effort, big joy.
Wellness reset – Fall always feels like the “new New Year.” I'll be syncing my meals with the season (more root veggies, less summer sugar), leaning into hormone-friendly habits, and getting back into a steady fitness rhythm.
Fall feels like the season of grounding—coming back to yourself after the swirl of summer. And as much as I'll miss the sunshine, the easygoing days, and the fresh summer produce, I'm ready to trade them in for rhythm, coziness, and a slower pace.
So this year, instead of clinging to summer, I'm saying thank you—and moving forward with joy, warmth, and intention.
